DeWalt DCR006 – The Basics

If this Bluetooth speaker had to be described with just one word, it would be “simplicity” – the DCR006 is incredibly easy to connect and operate. All that one has to do is to press the dedicated Bluetooth button and the device will go into discover mode, allowing your phone to connect to it instantly. After that, you just have to hit play in your music player, and that’s it – it’s as simple as it gets.

The speaker itself is quite compact and sports an appearance that is rugged and durable. It runs on 20V, 12V, or AC power, and can play music for the total of 15 hours when used with a 1.5A 20V max battery. The controls are located on the top of the unit and are made out of rubber to keep the dirt and dust out. The DCR006 is sufficiently loud and does an excellent job even on the noisiest job sites.

The Features

Design

At 10″ x 6″ x 11.9″ and weighing close to three pounds, the speaker is very compact and easy to carry around. It has an integrated handle at its back and a rubber over-mold that goes over its feet and around both of its sides, providing protection from accidental knocks. The body itself has been manufactured from sturdy PVC plastic, and the whole thing is really well-balanced and doesn’t have any tendencies to tip over.

The left side of the speaker contains three outlets that are protected by a rubber cover. These outlets are a DC port (for the supplied DC adapter), a 1A USB port (for charging your cell phone), and an AUX port (for connecting non-Bluetooth devices). When it comes to controls, there are a total of five buttons on the top of the unit – Bluetooth, volume up, volume down, power on/off, and pause. There are no controls for song progression, but this is not a serious downside as that feature is a part of every cell phone’s music player.

Power

DeWalt DCR006 features two 2-1/2″ 3-watt speakers which produce excellent sound, especially at low and medium sound levels. The sound is full and rich without cracking, although there’s some noticeable sound distortion when it’s used at the highest sound level. With a clear line of sight, the maximum Bluetooth connectivity range is at about 100 feet, which is very impressive and allows one to freely move around the job site without audio stream skipping.

Battery

This speaker can be powered by any of the company’s 12V or 20V Max batteries, but it can also be used with an AC adapter. A single fully-charged 20V battery will give you about 15 hours of runtime and that’s more than enough for a typical workday.

Things We Liked / Didn’t Like

R

Things we liked about it

There are a lot of things to like about this Bluetooth speaker. The fact that it was built to withstand the rough job site conditions is apparent right from the start – it sports a rubber over-molding on all sides and won’t break apart when accidentally knocked or dropped. The unit’s 2-1/2″ 3-watt speakers put out an outstanding decibel level, which is an essential feature of every good worksite speaker.

The unit’s Bluetooth 4.0 compatibility allows one to stream audio from his phone or mp3 player within 100 feet range, with the pairing itself being quick, straightforward, and effortless. The maximum versatility is ensured by the presence of a USB port, 3.5 auxiliary port, and an AC/DC outlet.

Q

Things we didn’t like

Even though the unit is well protected from physical damage, it comes without an IP rating for moisture and dust. This means that you’ll have to be a bit more careful when using the speaker in environments that are particularly dusty and moisty.

DeWalt DCR006 has no controls for music progression, but, as we said, that isn’t a big issue as you can do the same thing with your cell phone.

General Impressions

Just as we expected, the users are highly impressed with the sturdy design and clear sound output of DeWalt DCR006. They’re saying that it’s a great addition to the company’s 20V lineup and something they’re gladly using while being on the job site. They’re especially pleased with the unit’s runtime, saying that their mobile devices need charging far before the speaker does.

A couple of users have special words of praise for the speaker’s durability, saying that they had it knocked, dropped, and submerged, and that it still worked without any issues.

Conclusion

Without a doubt, the DeWalt DCR006 is among the best worksite Bluetooth speakers on the market. Not only is this device extremely durable and portable, but it also outputs high-quality sound which is very impressive for a device of its size. If you’re looking for a job site Bluetooth speaker that is reasonably priced, easy to carry around, and which delivers good sound, the DCR006 is just the thing you were searching for.
