Porter-Cable PCCK607 Review Summary:

Convenient, fast, and rechargeable, the cordless drills/drivers are among the most frequently used power tools. Although not as powerful as their corded cousins, these devices are quite potent and can assist the user with drilling and driving operations around the house and on the job site.

Purchasing a cordless drill is an exceptionally good decision if you’re going for a model with a brushless engine. These kinds of motors are a huge advancement, as they adjust themselves according to the task which leads to better battery life, more consistent performance, as well as increased durability.

Porter-Cable’s PCCK607 model is one of those – it’s a brushless drill/driver coming at a reasonable price and offering features that are typically reserved for pricier units. Let’s take a closer look at the model’s characteristics and determine its value for the money:

Specifications:

  • Weight – 3.3lbs
  • Dimensions – 11.4″ x 3.7″ x 9.5″
  • Power Source – Battery (Li-Ion)
  • Speed – 1,800 RPM
  • Voltage – 20V

Porter-Cable PCCK607 – The Basics

Just like all other Porter-Cable power tools, this drill/driver sports the same lightweight, ergonomic design and the identical color palette. It comes with a comfortable handle that reduces user fatigue and a belt clip for easier carrying. Other convenient features include a LED work light and a battery gauge.

The brushless 370 MWO (Max Watts Out) engine of this unit provides 50% more runtime than its brushed counterparts. It can achieve the maximum speed of 1,800 RPM (Rotations per Minute) and allows the user to engage in a myriad of drilling and driving operations. The 1/2″ ratcheting chuck, on the other hand, is there to provide a more reliable and improved bit retention.

Backed by the manufacturer’s standard 3-year limited warranty, the model is accompanied by a couple of PCC680L batteries and a PCC699L charger.

The Features

Design

Since it’s a part of the company’s 20V MAX lineup, the PCCK607 sports the same looks as all of the other devices in this range. This means that it features a recognizable black/grey/red color palette and a design that makes it easy to work with this drill/driver for hours on end. The contoured, rubberized handle of PCCK607 feels excellent in hand, and the device has an outstanding balance with the battery attached.

The fact that this drill/driver weighs only 3.3 pounds and has a genuinely compact size will be much appreciated by the professional contractors. Not only does this mean that it can be used in tight spaces, but it also doesn’t cause as much fatigue as some models made by other companies.

It’s a great thing that Porter-Cable decided to equip this model with as many convenient features as possible. This includes a LED work light, situated towards the unit’s base, and a belt clip that allows easier carrying. However, the thing we like the most is the presence of a battery gauge – it gives the user insight at the percentage of the remaining battery juice.

Power

As we said, the 370 MWO engine of this model is brushless, turning PCCK607 into a “smart” power tool. This means that, for example, driving screws into Styrofoam will make the device pull just a small charge from the battery, as it can sense the lack of resistance. Pretty convenient, wouldn’t you say?

The unit’s transmission reaches the maximum speed of 1,800 RPM, which is more than enough for all of your conventional drilling and fastening tasks. The chuck, on the other hand, is 1/2″ ratcheting type that has a very good grip on the drill bit.

Warranty & Accessories

Coming with Porter-Cable’s standard 3-year warranty, the unit is accompanied by two batteries and a charger. This makes the whole deal even more attractive and turns it into an excellent choice for the DIY beginners.

Things We Liked / Didn’t Like

R

Things we liked about it

Even though it looks quite bulky, the PCCK607 is actually a compact and lightweight drill/driver. This, together with the fact that it has a comfortable handle and good balance, makes us conclude that PCCK607 is one of the most conveniently designed drills on the market.

Another thing to like about its design is the presence of additional features. The unit’s belt clip allows easier carrying; its LED work light provides illumination in the darkness, while its fuel gauge tells the user how much battery juice is there left. All of these features are very useful and can make the transition from a more expensive drill much less painful.

The performance of this model, although not the most impressive one out there, is thoroughly satisfying. Its brushless engine delivers 1,800 RPM of speed and provides the user with enough power to tackle all kinds of drilling and driving tasks. We also like the fact that the model comes together with the batteries and a charger – it’s a well-rounded deal that has everything you need to start drilling and fastening.

Q

Things we didn’t like

The single bit holder found on the unit’s side is somewhat hard to utilize – proper magnetic bit holder would be much better. Moreover, the lack of a carrying case or a bag might turn some potential buyers away, as it makes organizing the drill and its accessories a bit harder.

General Impressions

People who bought this drill/driver say that it serves them well; claiming that PCCK607 has a very durable construction and that it easily withstands daily wear and tear. They also praise the unit’s high-performing brushless motor, concluding that it is powerful enough to assist them with most of their woodworking projects.

Conclusion

Overall, the design and performance of this drill/driver deserve only words of praise. Not only is PCCK607 a surprisingly potent tool, but it also sports a number of very convenient features that raise its overall usefulness. Its build quality and battery life are also quite solid, making us conclude that it offers an outstanding value for the money.
