Review Summary:

A thing that makes oscillating multi-tools so great is that they can make cuts which other tools cannot. These include plunging flash cuts, close undercuts, as well as all kinds of tight-space tasks that most other devices are too big for.

Porter-Cable’s PCC710 oscillating multi-tool is an exceptional device when it comes to small projects. With it, one is able to engage in all sorts of home renovation works, like grinding, cutting, sanding, and scraping. Cordless, lightweight, and highly effective, it is a perfect tool for contractors and hobbyists alike.

With many people considering PCC710 as one of the better tools in Porter-Cable’s 20V lineup, we’ve decided to take a more in-depth look at it. In the following paragraphs, we will try to determine if this oscillating tool is actually worth the money and try to help you decide whether to go for it or not.

  • Dimensions – 11″ x 3.8″ x 10.2″

Porter-Cable PCC710 – The Basics

Designed to fit tight spaces, this oscillating multi-tool has a length and weight that make it a perfect tool for smaller projects. Just like all other Porter-Cable power tools, it also feels great in hands due to its ergonomic shape and great balance.

The model produces 8,000 – 18,000 OPM (Oscillations per Minute) and allows one to control the speed via the integrated variable speed dial. It also features a tool-free system for replacing and connecting various accessories – all that you’ll need to do this is only your own hands. There is also a built-in LED light, whose purpose is to illuminate dark corners and thus increase your productivity.

Available in Porter-Cable’s combo kits and as tool-only, PCC710 comes with a 3-year limited warranty and a storage box with 20 accessories. Let’s check out its features:

The Features

Design

As we said, this model possesses a design that’s as minute as possible for an oscillating multi-tool. Since it weighs only 3.6 pounds, holding it in hands for an extended period does not cause cramps, and that’s always something worthy of praise. In the same manner, the unit’s 3-position over-mold grip reduces vibrations and further increases the overall comfort of use.

However, one of the greatest things about PCC710’s design is its tool-free system for accessory changing. Releasing the accessories is as easy as squeezing the handle, and attaching the new ones requires only the use of your fingertips. It’s a fast and easy system, and one of the best features of the entire device.

Finally, the model also has an integrated LED work light. It is quite bright and of great assistance when it comes to working in areas with poor lighting, as well as when working in dark corners of the cabinets and like.

Power

Producing between 8,000 and 18,000 oscillations per minute, the PCC710 is a highly efficient power tool that does its job fast and well. However, it is important to mention that it shouldn’t be your weapon of choice for the really demanding projects – it is, after all, an affordable and homeowner-targeted oscillating tool.

Tasks such as sanding, scraping, cutting, and grinding can all be done with this device – hence the term multi-tool. It is one of the most versatile power tools out there, and the fact that it was manufactured by a well-known brand such as Porter-Cable only increases its value for the money.

Other Features

Along with the fact that it comes with a generous 3-year warranty, we were delighted to see PCC710 accompanied by an accessory box. It includes all of the necessary attachments and shows that Porter-Cable actually cares for its customers.

Things We Liked / Didn’t Like

R

Things we liked about it

Although not the most powerful tool of this type out there, the PCC710 is undoubtedly one of the best oscillating multi-tools at this price point. The fact that a model that is so affordable is also well-designed and highly efficient deserves high praise – Porter-Cable did an outstanding job with it.

The design of this unit is a solid one, as the device feels good in hands and doesn’t produce excessive vibrations while it’s working. Moreover, it has an over-mold grip that prevents slippage and a LED light that illuminates the working surface.

With the rate of 18,000 OPM, this oscillating multi-tool is an excellent choice for light-duty scraping, cutting, sanding, and grinding. The speed can be adjusted to the task at hand via the integrated speed dial, while the tool-free accessory changing system removes the need to use any special tools.

We also liked the accessory box included in the package – it makes the whole deal even more tempting.

Q

Things we didn’t like

Porter-Cable made this tool to be used for small projects – heavy-duty tasks are not something you want to use PCC710 for. Our only other complaint is that the unit is somewhat noisy, which is why we advise wearing ear protection while working with it.

General Impressions

The versatility of this cordless power tool is praised by many – the users are pleased with the fact that PCC710 can be used for so many different applications. They are also happy with the unit’s solid construction quality, dependable performance, as well as with the easiness of accessory changing. Most of them agree that it’s a great deal for the money and recommend it to potential buyers.

Conclusion

Porter-Cable is one of the few companies that get it right – not every tool needs to have bells and whistles but each of them has to be reliable and dependable. This oscillating multi-tool is no exception to that rule, as it is a well-built device that won’t fail you as long as you don’t use it for ambitious projects.

We advise getting PCC710 in one of the company’s combo kits, especially to contractors. Having a whole range of power tools using one battery-charging system is the best decision when it comes to commercial use.
