Porter-Cable PCCK647 Review Summary:

Due to its higher torque rating, an impact driver is a tool that’s of immense value to every serious handyman. These devices have enough driving power to assist the user with driving bolts, screws, and nuts. Cordless models, now more powerful than ever, are especially useful and convenient.

Porter-Cable’s PCCK647 model is a compact, yet quite potent and fast impact driver with a number of features that put it above the competition. It is well-designed and lightweight, has a solid wireless runtime, and features a practical LED work light that allows using it in the dark. Due to the fact that it operates on a brushless engine, the model boasts an adaptable torque – one doesn’t have to worry about excessive power damaging the material.

Have a look at our in-depth review of PCCK647 and find out if it’s the right cordless impact driver for your needs.

Porter-Cable PCCK647 – The Basics

Sporting a brushless motor that provides 50% more runtime than the brushed engines, this device packs an impressive amount of torque (1400 in-lbs) to assist the user with large fastening applications. Besides power, the model offers speed, too – 2,700 RPM is a standard rate for impact drivers in this price category.

Another great feature of this model is that it’s quite lightweight and easy to hold with one hand. As you can already guess, this can come in quite handy when you’re up on the ladder or in a tight space. Besides the overall ergonomic design, the PCCK647 is also 14% shorter than most other devices of this type, so it’s quite easy to grip and hold.

There are a couple of other aspects about this unit that deserve a more detailed look – keep reading and find out everything about its characteristics.

The Features

Design

The unique color palette of Porter-Cable power tools is called toyish by some. We, however, can’t see anything wrong about it – we could even say that it looks attractive. Besides the recognizable red, black, and grey colors, the thing that makes PCCK647 look similar to all other Porter-Cable 20V tools is its ergonomic design.

At under 3 pounds, this model is quite lightweight, allowing the user to utilize it for hours on end without feeling fatigue. Moreover, it has a comfortable handle that makes operating it quite pleasant, especially when you have to wield it with just one hand. The model’s rubber grip minimizes the chances of slippage and significantly reduces vibrations.

Another great thing about this driver’s design is that it comes with a well-positioned and bright work light. Unlike the LED lights found on most other power tools, this one activates and shuts itself off in a correct way – it turns on prior to drilling and deactivates only after the drill stops spinning. There is also a convenient battery gauge on the base of the unit.

Power

As it is powered by a brushless engine, the performance of this tool is genuinely impressive. Like we mentioned, its torque is adaptable – the motor never applies more power than it’s actually needed. This, in turn, leads to better performance and a longer lifespan of the tool.

With 1,400 in-lb of torque and 2,700 RPM of speed, you will be able to tackle most fastening applications without having to worry about the project’s size. However, it’s important to mention that PCCK647 is targeted at homeowners and light-duty professionals – those who deal with heavy-duty fastening on a daily basis ought to look for something more powerful.

Warranty & Accessories

Three years limited warranty, three months of free service, and ninety days of money-back guarantee – it’s the standard Porter-Cable warranty deal. When it comes to accessories, the tool is accompanied by two 1.5Ah batteries, one 1Amp charger, and one screw-driving bit.

Things We Liked / Didn’t Like

R

Things we liked about it

The overall compactness of this device will surely be appreciated by all those who don’t want to deal with the user fatigue. Moreover, it will also allow handymen to use PCCK647 in tight spaces, which is sometimes unavoidable.

Besides the overall comfort of use, another thing we liked about this model’s design is the presence of a built-in LED light. It is located towards the unit’s base, which is, in our opinion, an excellent location for it – it’s pretty hard to obstruct the beam of light with your hands. There is also a convenient battery gauge, and that’s always a welcome feature.

Performance-wise, this impact driver works very well and easily deals with most driving tasks. Its brushless engine sports enough torque and speed to help you finish every project without any hassle.

Q

Things we didn’t like

The fact that this impact driver is so light won’t be appreciated by all handymen – some might find it to feel cheap and unprofessional. Although quite sturdy and well-built, the unit certainly doesn’t feel as robust and reliable as the pricier impact drivers.

Our only other complaint is the quality of the included charger. It does its job well, but it feels somewhat flimsy.

General Impressions

A vast majority of people who bought this tool are pleased with its design and power. The complaints that they have are minor, and the number of positive impressions vastly outnumbers the negative ones. Those who bought PCCK747 say that it’s a great device for home projects and that it’s one of the most reliable power tools they used so far.

Conclusion

An excellent balance between the power and convenience of this tool makes it a great buy. Although it won’t blow your socks off, PCCK647 is well-designed, ergonomic, efficient, and comfortable – it possesses all the qualities that a good impact driver needs to have. For that matter, it’s easy to conclude that the model offers a great value for the money.
