Porter-Cable PCCK604L2 -The Basics

The first tool in this combo kit is a genuinely compact drill/driver code-named PCC601. The model has the right length and weight for a cordless machine of this type -handling it causes no fatigue and the model easily fits into tight spaces.

It is not the most powerful cordless drill/driver out there, but it does its job pretty well. The unit’s engine delivers solid performance and its 2-speed gearbox allows the user to adjust the speed according to the current application. There is also a standard bit holder and the LED light that illuminates the working surface when needed.

Its companion is the PCC641 impact driver, which features a high-performance impact mechanism that successfully delivers 1,450 in-lbs of torque. Just like the drill/driver, this device sports a stellar design that provides optimal comfort of use to the operator.

Besides the fact that it packs a pretty powerful punch, this model also has a ¼-inch hex chuck which makes it easy to swap the bits. When it comes to extra features, PCC641 has a couple of magnetic holders, a belt clip on the base, as well as the integrated LED light on its top.

The Features

Drill/Driver PCC601

All those who ever used a Porter-Cable power tool will find the design of PCC601 to be a familiar one. Featuring the exact same color palette and a rubberized, contoured handle of all other PC tools, this drill/driver feels excellent in hand and can be used for longer periods of time without any problems.

Due to its length of 8.25 inches and weight of just 2.5 pounds, it’s pretty safe to call this unit one of the company’s most compact and lightweight drills/drivers so far. Those who use these devices in commercial environments will undoubtedly appreciate this fact.

When it comes to performance, PCC601 is highly suitable for homeowner tasks and light-duty professional applications. The reason behind that is its 1,500 RPM motor, which can be used in one of 22 clutch positions and at two different speed rates. Although it’s not a brushless device, the PCC601 works very well and is an excellent option for carpenters, plumbers, as well as mechanics.

Along with the standard bit holder, which is situated in the unit’s base, PCC601 also has an integrated LED work light. The light that it provides is sufficiently bright and should assist you with drilling/driving in rooms with poor lighting.

Impact Driver PCC641

One thing about this unit’s design that’s immediately noticeable is its slim profile. When we combine this with the weight of just 3.3 pounds, we get an impact driver that easily fits into hard-to-reach spaces and which can be used for hours on end without fatigue. For optimal comfort, Porter-Cable decided to equip PCC641 with a rubberized handle, which also prevents slippage that can occur due to sweating. The unit’s trigger is well-positioned and very easy to operate, and the unit has a pretty good balance once you attach the battery pack to its base.

As we already said, this impact packs a pretty powerful punch -with 1,450 in-lbs of torque, you shouldn’t have any problems with most fastening operations. When used for the right jobs, the PCC641 doesn’t disappoint and works like a charm, which is precisely what we expected from a Porter-Cable power tool.

Another thing that deserves praise is the already mentioned ¼-inch hex chuck, which allows one-handed bit swapping and, therefore, increases the user’s productivity. We should also indicate the presence of two convenient magnetic bit holders, the belt clip (situated on the base), as well as the built-in LED light which is as equally bright as one found on the PCC601 drill/driver.

Accessories & Warranty

Unlike the PCCK619L2 combo kit, which also consists of an impact driver and a drill/driver, this toolset does include a contractor bag. This is a welcome addition and something that really helps with organizing, storing, and transporting the tools. It’s a red & black, soft-sided bag with a handle and a zipper-style opening.

Speaking of other accessories, the kit includes a PCC699 charger, two 20V Max Li-Ion batteries (2 x 1.3Ah), two Phillips head screw-driving bits, and one double-ended bit tip. The warranty deal is a standard one offered by Porter-Cable – three years limited.

Both tools are compact & lightweight

N

Both tools have LED lights

N

Bag included

Cons:

N

Intended for home projects

N

Below average battery life

R

Things we liked about it

Both the drill’s and the impact driver’s design deserve only words of praise. The fact that these tools were made to feel comfortable in hands is apparent right from the start -the guys in Porter-Cable’s design division certainly know their job.

Both devices have a satisfying performance, primarily when used in homeowner & hobbyists environments. However, they are also suitable for lighter professional applications, as both possess enough power to handle medium-sized projects. This is particularly true for the PCC641 impact driver, which boasts a surprising amount of power for a device in its price category.

Finally, we were pleased to see that both units have integrated LED lights. Although this feature might seem like an unnecessary gimmick, it is, actually, of invaluable use when it comes to working in pitch darkness or areas with low lighting.

Q

Things we didn’t like

When compared to premium-category drills and drivers, the tools included in this kit are underpowered and are built of cheaper materials. This makes them unsuitable for heavy-duty applications. Besides that, the batteries that are included in the set don’t hold a charge for too long and are somewhat disappointing.

General Impressions

Those who bought this kit to use it for their hobby and to fix problems around the house are highly satisfied with it. They call PCC604L2 an excellent bundle of cordless equipment and praise its aesthetics, power, ruggedness, and interchangeability. Due to the affordable price of the kit, they’re happy to recommend it to their friends and associates.

Conclusion

Ergonomic, rugged, offering solid performance and coming with interchangeable batteries, the tools found in Porter-Cable’s PCCK604L2 combo kit provide outstanding value for the money. When treated correctly and with a bit of the good old craftsmen respect, they can last a long time and assist you with each of your light-duty projects. It’s a reasonably priced toolset that unquestionably deserves its high popularity.
