GreenWorks G-MAX 40V – The Basics
As we said, this particular model is one of the most powerful on our list. It offers up to 150 cuts on a single charge with the 4Ah battery. Also, it offers more torque and up to 70% less noise than its predecessors. The design is excellent, and one can tell that the engineers thought about the ergonomics. It’s also quite easy to use, even if you aren’t as experienced with power tools.
When it comes to ideal applications, this model works well with smaller tasks, cleanups after a storm, or any other home project. In fact, it can even be used for professional purposes to a certain extent, depending on the limitations. Chain brake and low kickback make this unit relatively safe and suitable for novices.
The best part of the design is the ergonomic aspect of it. While many other models do have a pretty interesting and well-made design, this one takes the win. The hand grips are well-made and cushioned with a layer of rubber. The coating acts both as a protection, and it decreases the amount of vibrations. In fact, the manufacturer stated that this particular model features up to 70% less vibration intensity than its predecessors.
The tool-less chain tensioning system works well, although it can get clunky from time to time. It isn’t a major drawback as it shouldn’t be used too often in the first place, but it’s something you should be aware of before deciding whether or not to invest in this particular model. On top of that, it’s quite simple and easy to use. All you have to do is turn a single knob in the desired direction, and the chain will automatically tighten itself.
When it comes to torque, it’s increased by up to 30% in comparison to some other similar models meaning you can expect a great deal of power with supreme efficiency.
The safety features are okay, but there isn’t anything one could be amazed at. The regular low kickback and chain brake work well, and you can expect a neat performance, even under unfavorable conditions. However, make sure you read the user manual regardless of your previous expertize.
Things we liked about it
The other thing we liked is the fact that it features a brushless motor. Now, a lot of people consider this a minor advantage, but you can rest assured that it drastically changes the way these tools perform, especially when it comes to vibration intensity and noise. Speaking of noise, one cannot consider this unit silent, but it’s definitely less noisy than a vast majority of others within the same category and price range.
Things we didn’t like
The other thing a lot of people complained about is the price of spare batteries. While the unit doesn’t cost much and is quite affordable, the extra batteries tend to have a hefty price. In case you want to add a spare battery and cut some downtime, prepare yourself for a significant budget kick.
General user impressions
Homeowners love this particular model due to its ease of use, versatility, and affordable price. As long as you use it within its limits and take good care of it, it should last for at least a couple of years before the battery gives up. After that, the only thing you need to do in order to get it back up and running is to buy another batter. However, as we already said, extra batteries tend to have a hefty price. As far as the professionals go, they usually skip this unit as it doesn’t cope well with large and demanding projects.
This machine is a good solution for a vast array of people, excluding devoted professionals. It packs more than enough power to cut through anything you put in front of it as long as it’s within limits. Therefore, occasional cutting, pruning, and trimming are a piece of cake for this unit. On the other hand, anything thicker than few inches may be an issue.
We would definitely recommend this unit to anyone who is looking for a decent battery-powered chainsaw at an affordable price. However, if you’re planning on tackling a massive project, keep looking, this isn’t your cup of tea.
