Makita Table Saw Review Summary:

A contractor table saw needs to have enough power to cut through dense wood without any issues. The Makita 2705 does that job with ease, all while being a compact and portable.

Makita 2705 Specifications:

  • Weight – 82 pounds
  • Dimensions – 36 x 16 x 32 inches
  • Power source – Corded
  • Motor – 15 amps

Makita 2705 – The Basics

When it comes to sheer power, this particular model is among the best. It features a 15-amp motor that’s able to deliver 4800 RPM. As you may assume, it’s more than enough power to cut through any wood. The table top is big enough for precise cuts. Also, it’s perfectly flat meaning you won’t have problems with deviations and uneven cuts.

While hobbyists appreciate its ease of use, the professionals love the accuracy. Versatility is one of this model’s strongest points, and that’s what makes it worth mentioning and checking out. If you’re looking for a decent contractor saw with a couple of high-end features, don’t hesitate to check this unit out, it might be the thing you’re looking for.

The 2705 Makita Features

The design

The first thing you’ll notice about the design is its compactness. Instead of being filled with a ton of auxiliary instruments, it’s quite convenient and spacious. The blade guard system is tool-less meaning it can be adjusted or taken down with ease thanks to the cam lock. The dual side guards allow you to cut wood of any size and measure it easily from the blade to the rip.

The unit doesn’t have a wheeled base, which can be a burden sometimes, especially if you need to move the saw frequently from one place to another. Even though 80lbs. doesn’t sound particularly heavy, it will take its toll on your health quickly. Therefore, if you’re planning on moving the unit often, make sure you have someone with you who can help.

Safety

As far as the safety goes, it’s okay. Some premium features are lacking, but it makes sense if you take its affordability into consideration. The blade guard is designed great; it lets you view the blade as it contacts the material. There are two independent anti-kickback mechanisms integrated into the base. It’s great news because most models have only one anti-kickback system.

The On/Off switch is quite small and insufficiently visible. While it seems quite irrelevant for some people, the size of this switch can sometimes make a huge difference. As you may assume, the larger the switch is, the more chance you have to react in time.

Precision and Performance

This particular model can be regarded as highly precise. It offers more than enough additional instruments so that you can cut wood with incredible accuracy. Smooth performance is one of the main advantages of the Makita 2705. There are no hiccups, sudden stops, or any blade deviations caused by improper design.

Things we liked about it

The compactness and ease of use create an overwhelming feeling, especially if you’re a hobbyist. Many DIY-ers invest a lot of money in grade-A machines, but most of those units are hard to use and require some expertise. However, this one doesn’t; it’s as simple as it can be.

The warranty conditions are excellent. Makita Company has a great quality control department, and a vast majority of their machines are inspected before leaving the factory. Therefore, the percentage of faulty units on the market is negligible.

One cannot say it’s a cheap piece of equipment, but it’s much cheaper than some premium models while offering similar features. In simpler words, if you need a professional contractor saw, this unit might do the job well even if it’s not regarded as a professional one.

Q

Things we didn’t like

The absence of sturdy base is quite a burden. Even though it’s reliable and sturdy enough, the Makita 2705 would be a 5-star unit if there was a wheeled rolling case included with it.

Lack of dust-collecting capabilities can ruin one’s day, to say the least. Dust tends to accumulate inside which consequently leads to problems with the blade. However, the problem is easily solvable. All you have to do is clean it with an air compressor from time to time and prevent any clogging. Also, lubrication is quite important; if you don’t have any experience with it, refer to the user manual.

What Users Say About The Makita 2705

Makita has sold quite a lot of the 2705. Therefore, people seem satisfied with the design and the overall performance of this model. Some professionals complained about the weight, but it’s an expected outcome. The unit does need some minor adjustments before you turn it on for the first time, so make sure you do it or else you’re risking breaking the machine.

One cannot say it’s the best contractor table saw on the market, but it’s quite good and accessible to people with a limited budget. As you may know, affordability is the main factor we pay attention to before dedicating a full review to a particular model.

Conclusion

Makita is a well-respected brand, and is always a good investment. It all comes down to your requirements. If you’re a DIY-er who occasionally tackles a project, the 2705 model could pose a good solution. However, if you’re a professional who needs to use a contractor saw on a daily basis, you might want to check some other table saw models out
