Klein Tools MM1000 – The Basics
This particular product is quite versatile and useful. The most important fact about it is that it can be used by both professionals and beginners. So, whether you’re dealing with electricity on a daily basis, or you simply want to have a unit to check the voltages in your household, this one will certainly fulfill your expectations.
Many features such as the auto range, analog bar graph, and more, come in handy when you’re dealing with sensitive electronics. The design is pretty neat, and the manufacturer even includes a rubber casing which has ribs on either side of the unit to ensure a better grip. It also has a retractable lever on the back of the casing for people who like holding their tool in a vertical position. It measures AC/DC voltage, duty cycle, capacitance, resistance, and frequency. You can also check whether the resistor is functioning properly or not. However, remember to set you unit to zero before you start measuring resistance or else you’ll get false data.
The backlight, display, and casing
You may be wondering why this feature is so important when it’s just a simple light, but the reasons are clear. For example, a serious professional must have a multimeter with a backlit display because there are numerous occasions when you’re conducting an analysis in dark environments. One more important thing about the display is that it can be read from various angles. In other words, you will be able to distinguish the symbols and numbers even if you tilt the multimeter for 45 degrees, which is pretty rare, especially with LCD screens.
The rubber sleeve is simple yet incredibly effective. It does not only offer protection from hits, but it also hides the battery and fuse compartment. If you want to change the batteries or fuses, take off the rubber protection, unscrew the back door, and you’ll find two AAA batteries and two fuses behind the lid.
Auto shut off
This option is pretty self-explanatory, and it comes with most digital multimeters. As you can assume, the multimeter shuts itself off after 15 minutes of inactivity. The primary goal of this option is to save battery. You might be thinking it’s not a big deal, but if you take a moment and calculate how many times you have bought new batteries just because you forgot to turn off the instrument after use, you’ll see that this feature effectively saves money.

Things We Didn’t Like
Despite its greatness, this unit doesn’t come without a few things that could be improved in the future. For example, some people noticed that it’s quite hard to remove the rubber protection when you want to change the batteries or blown fuses. If you experience this problem, try doing it in a warmer environment because warm temperatures loosen up the rubber.
Other people noticed that it isn’t made in the United States, but rather imported from the Asian market. However, this isn’t a downside at all; it’s just a matter of personal preference. The model we’ve tested performed exceptionally well, despite the fact that it’s made in Korea.
Last, but not least, a lot of people didn’t get the alligator clamps for the test leads. However, the manufacturer states that they are included. The model we had the chance to test out came with alligator clamps included; however, we can’t guarantee that you’ll get them as well. If you don’t get the alligator clamps delivered, feel free to return the shipment and demand a new product.
