However, one should conduct extensive research before investing in these machines because they aren’t cheap at all.
If you’re looking for a high-quality model with a hefty amount of additional features, take a moment and check the HVBS-7MW out. It offers more than enough power and versatility for both avid professionals and occasional users. In case these factors are what you are looking for, some of our insights might help you decide whether or not it’s worth putting your money into this particular model.
- Power – 3/4HP motor
- Blade speed – 85, 130, 180, 285 FPM
- Cutting capacity – 7 x 12 inches
- Weight – 286 pounds
- Drive – belt drive
Jet HVBS-7MW – The Basics
This particular model offers everything you’ll ever need in both a horizontal and vertical bandsaw. In fact, one of its main features is its ability to transform into a vertical unit within seconds, and vice-versa. On top of that, the 3/4HP motor is able to cope with most of the things you put in front of the blade as long as you’re using a proper one. On the other hand, the main application this model is foreseen for is cutting metal.
The blade speed can be manually adjusted which allows you to regulate and control the smoothness of the cut as well as adjust it according to the material you’re cutting. The vise swivels up to 45 degrees and that allows you to gain more control over the piece you’re processing. The unit is great both for contractors and hobbyists.
When it comes to durable and trustworthy design, this particular one is quite near the top. The materials used for manufacture are reliable, and most of the unit is made of both cast iron and steel. The base is made of cast iron which is a metal that guarantees longevity and consistency. The worm gear is also hardened which further improves its stability and endurance.
The automatic shut off function isn’t a new innovation by any means, but it’s definitely worth pointing out. It allows the user to set up the machine and let it run shut down after every cut. It can be a nuisance for some people, but it’s a great safety precaution. The coolant system is consistent and it ensures smooth operation while preventing over-heating.
The roller blade guides and an adjustable material stop system are also included.
The HVBS-7MW can be used for cutting a wide range of materials such as aluminum, steel, and etcetera. As we already mentioned, the existence of changeable blade speeds allows the user to fine-tune the machine and achieve the best possible results without too much hassle. On top of that, the hydraulic system is great for accurate cuts and complete control over the piece you’re cutting.
Portability is something not many people expect from this particular unit. However, the included wheels make it as mobile as possible. Also, the wheels are well-designed and made of sturdy materials so you don’t have to worry about them failing and breaking anytime soon.
There is also a chip-tray built into the machine which ensures a clean and dust-free work surface. While it may not sound impressive or even useful, you can rest assured that the absence of dust makes operating this model much easier and healthier.
Things we liked about it
The high-quality components are the main selling point of this particular model. Many people have positive thoughts about this unit because of the components that are both long-lasting and reliable. On top of that, the overall precision of the unit is quite praise-worthy. Whether you’re a professional or an enthusiast, the cuts will usually turn out smooth and fine.
While the machine isn’t cheap by any means, it’s definitely a worthy investment. The price-to-quality ratio is great and getting spare parts isn’t a burden at all. In fact, thanks to the responsiveness of the customer support department, you can solve any minor issues in a matter of minutes or hours with the help of the customer support.
Things we didn’t like
This is not an easy-to-use machine, by any means. It does look quite complex, but as long as you have some basic knowledge regarding bandsaws and how they work, there shouldn’t be any major issues.
The pan that’s responsible for collecting fluids isn’t as big as one would expect. Therefore, you will probably get some fluid on the floor during use. It’s not a deal-breaking factor, but it’s worth pointing out so that you know what to expect.
Most people that bought this model are quite satisfied with its performance. There are a couple of things some people didn’t like and complained about, but those are more a matter of personal preferences instead of being an inherent flaw. There aren’t many DIYers among the users of this unit because there are some other horizontal models that come at a significantly lower price and offer similar features. However, they are not as heavy-duty as this particular one.
As far as we are concerned, you won’t regret buying this as long as you put it at work and make it pay itself promptly. On the other hand, if you don’t need as many additional features, don’t hesitate to check some other units that could have a more acceptable price, especially if you’re on a tight budget. As we said, this isn’t a cheap piece of equipment and you should think it through before investing. However, if you do decide to go ahead and purchase this particular unit, it will perform as advertised.
