Makita HR2475 – The Basics

This Makita rotary hammer sports a pretty powerful 7.0 AMP motor that makes short work of concrete by achieving the maximum speed of 1,100 RPM. It can be used in three separate modes of operation (hammering/rotation/hammering with rotation) and is controlled via the easy-to-operate variable speed trigger.

At only 6.2 pounds, the HR2475 is a lightweight model, which makes operating it a real breeze. The comfort is further increased by an addition of two ergonomic handles, with the frontal one being 360-degree rotatable and providing the user with full control over the operation. The unit also has an integrated torque limiter, so there’s no worrying about dangerous kickbacks.

All of this makes the model ideal for masons, plumbers, electricians, installers, sign hangers, anchor setters, and many other professions. Let’s check out the features!

The Features

The Design

With the weight of only 6.2 pounds, the Makita HR2475 is undoubtedly among the world’s lightest rotary hammers. This, of course, makes the model more user-friendly, especially when it comes to those long drilling sessions that are bound to induce painful hand cramps and fatigue.

Just like many other rotary hammer drills on the market, this one also sports dual handles. The back one is rubberized and provides a great fit, while the frontal one can be rotated around the unit (360°), providing additional control over the device. The variable speed trigger is huge and incredibly easy to use, which is a standard when it comes to Makita power tools.

While talking about the design, we should also mention that HR2475 doesn’t vibrate as much as its competitors. We were quite surprised by this during the testing – it’s something that deserves high praise.

Power

Like many other Makita engines, the 7.0 AMP motor inside this rotary hammer has been engineered with the MMA (Makita Motor Advantage) technology. This includes things like copper commutator bars, dual-ball bearing armature, and field core interlocking steel laminations. It makes the motor highly efficient and very durable, meaning that you won’t have any issues with even the hardest materials.

Extra performance features include the sequential impact timing (minimizes the overlapping of the bit impacts) and the torque-limiting clutch (disengages the unit’s gears when the bit binds). The drill works with the SDS-PLUS bits and can be used in three separate modes, which makes it highly versatile.

Warranty & Accessories

The warranty period for this rotary hammer is not that generous – it lasts only one year. The deal also includes a 30-day money back guarantee, as well as the tool case and a depth gauge depending on which bundle you choose to purchase.

Things we liked about it

There’s a lot to like about Makita HR2475 – it’s a reasonably priced, efficient, and durable rotary hammer that had us surprised with a sheer number of features that it comes with. The first thing we noticed about it is its lightweight and ergonomic design, which makes working with it a real joy. Everything about HR2475’s construction was designed to feel great in hands, and we can safely say that the Makita’s engineers have succeeded in their intent.

We also liked that the model doesn’t vibrate too much while in operation. All those who have to deal with drilling in concrete on a daily basis will surely appreciate this.

Q

Things we didn’t like

The motor of this rotary hammer drill is a reverse one, albeit not the fastest one we’ve seen. This is especially true in reverse operation – the device becomes slower, so it takes some time the back the bit out of the workpiece with it.

Other than that, we were quite displeased with the warranty deal. A 1-year warranty is just too short for today’s standards, with competitors supplying their models with 3-year and 5-year warranty periods.

What Users Say About The Makita HR2475

Users are mostly satisfied with the performance and durability of this rotary hammer drill. Those who have owned it for a couple of months are saying that it’s a rock-solid machine that has inspired them to buy more Makita tools in the future. They’re saying that HR2475 is very accurate, that it doesn’t overheat, and that it’s of great help when it comes to concrete removal jobs.

Even the contractors have only words of praise for this model, calling it one of the most valuable pieces of equipment in their tool boxes.

Conclusion

Overall, we think that this rotary hammer drill offers excellent value for the money since it’s packed with advantageous features and provides a solid performance when it comes to masonry jobs. We were very impressed with its design and the power that it provides, as well as with its additional features, such as the torque-limiting clutch or the sequential impact timing.

It’s an ideal choice for masons and anchor setters, as it will provide them with enough power and efficiency to finish every project in a timely manner. We recommend it!
