Makita, a Japanese manufacturer of power tools, is one of the brands to keep in mind when buying these products – their drills are well-known for durability and high efficiency. Their DA3010F right angle drill is no exception to this rule, as it possesses a number of perks that make it a tempting offer.
That’s why we have decided to take a more in-depth look at this drill and help our readers determine the unit’s value for the money. Join us, and let’s find out if this is yet another exceptional power tool from Makita!
- Weight – 3.1lbs
- Dimensions – 10.6″ x 2.4″ x 3.1″
- Chuck Size – 3/8″
- No Load Speed – 0-2,400 RPM
- Motor Power – 4.0 AMP
Makita DA3010F – The Basics
As it belongs in the category of medium-priced right angle corded drills, the Makita DA3010F possesses a significantly higher number of useful features than its low-cost cousins. Its heart is the remarkable 4.0 AMP motor that achieves the maximum no-load speed of 2,400 rotations per minute, which is quite impressive and more than sufficient for most drilling jobs. The speed is, of course, variable, allowing controlled drilling and speedy fastening in all sorts of materials.
The drill also sports an outstanding design – handling this unit is a real breeze. With its reduced head height (2-5/8″) and low weight (3.1lbs), it’s a perfect solution for those who have to deal with working in cramped spaces on a daily basis. The presence of a built-in LED light makes the task even easier, as it illuminates the workpiece and allows working in dimly-lit areas.
Coming in beautiful teal color, the Makita DA3010F sports a compact design, since its purpose is to help users complete drilling tasks in tight spaces. The fact that it weighs only a bit more than 3 pounds and that its head height has been reduced to 2-5/8″ makes it an excellent choice for all types of close-quarters jobs. We also liked the presence of a paddle switch, together with the speed limiting dial whose purpose is to prevent over-tightening.
Speaking of design, we also liked that the unit has a built-in LED light. It’s a high-output, shock-proof lamp that increases visibility in dimly-lit areas. The manufacturer advertises that the bulb will never require a replacement throughout the entire working life of the tool.
The powerful 4.0 AMP motor of this right angle drill is an aggressive performer, featuring a variable speed of 0-2,400 RPM and being able to drill through wood and metal like a hot knife through butter. The ball-bearing construction assures smooth operation and gives the tool a longer lifespan – and that’s always a big plus in our book.
The unit also has a built-in clutch, which has been engineered in a way to prevent the gear damage that happens when a bit bends. In such situations, the clutch will automatically disengage the gears and save the device from breaking.
Besides the tool itself, you’ll also get some additional goodies in the box. There’s the chuck key, a key holder, as well as the grip for easier handling in tough situations. The unit comes with a standard 1-year warranty.
Things we liked about it
The features that make this possible are the powerful 4.0 AMP motor, a head with a reduced height, a ball-bearing construction, and a clutch that prevents damage to the gears. The LED light, even though it turns on only when the trigger pressure is applied, is another great addition. All of these features combined make the Makita DA3010F yet another great product in Makita’s line of right angle drills.
Things we didn’t like
We should also mention that the drill doesn’t come with a carrying case. Those who have to carry their power tools into the field will probably be quite disappointed with the lack of a well-designed case for this excellent right angle drill.
During our research on the unit, we’ve found dozens of reviews and impressions from those who have used the device and would like to share their thoughts on it. The majority of users are quite pleased with Makita DA3010F, saying that it’s a compact and powerful tool that they’re gladly using on a daily basis.
However, there were a few niggles they mentioned – like the fact that the LED light works only when the bit is spinning or the lack of a carrying case. Nevertheless, these were just minor complaints that didn’t affect the overall positive response.
