WEN 61710 – The Basics
This model excels in quick repairs around the house. It may not be a professional unit per se, but it certainly can cope with large projects. Thanks to the light weight and ergonomic design, you can use this staple gun for hours without thinking about a break.
The needed power source isn’t something you should worry about. Some models do require a heavy-duty air compressor, but this one doesn’t. In fact, any compressor will do as long as it’s able to deliver around 120 PSI. The unit itself works best at around 100 PSI. It’s good news because you’ll save some money by not having to purchase a high-end compressor.
As with many other units, the design is pretty standard and similar to other. It doesn’t have any unusual parts that you should worry about. The trigger is not as sensitive as with some other models we’ve reviewed. Therefore, if you’re looking for a stiff trigger system, this might be an interesting solution. The device is stable, which adds to the overall efficiency of it.
The body is made of aluminum which is a lightweight and durable metal. The handle is rubberized meaning you won’t have issues with sudden slips and misfires.
One of the main trumps of this particular model is its ease of use. While many other models contain complex mechanisms, this one works on a pretty simple principle. It’s a great thing because even people who don’t have any experience with these tools find this particular model quite easy to get a hold of.
Reloading is a known burden in the world of pneumatic staple guns. A large number of other models have a pretty serious problem with the reload process, especially when the unit jams. However, the WEN 61710 features a special quick release system which is designed to alleviate the jamming issues. Instead of having to hassle with stuck staples, all you need to do is activate this feature, and that’s it!
As we already said, one of the best things about this model is the fact that it doesn’t require a super-expensive air compressor in order to work at an optimal level. Any unit that can deliver up to 120 PSI will do. Make sure you think about maintenance as it’s quite important, especially for pneumatic devices.
Things we liked about it
There are a couple of things we found interesting. The first one is the magazine capacity. While most units hold around 60 or 70 staples, this one holds a 100. It may not be an impressive fact for some people, but the difference adds up every time you reload. Can you imagine the time saved by using a sample of 100 reloads?
The other neat thing is the price. Because it’s not manufactured by an A-class brand, the price is significantly better than the one for famous brands. However, you’ll always get what you paid for; therefore, don’t expect any miracles from this unit. On the other hand, it works fine within its limits.
Things we didn’t like
While it’s a pretty good product, it doesn’t look particularly good. In other words, the aesthetic aspect is pretty underwhelming. Many people say it’s quite an ugly-looking tool. However, it’s all a matter of personal preferences. In fact, you shouldn’t think about the aesthetics at all; it’s much better if you focus on performance.
The other thing we didn’t like is the somewhat frequent jamming. Even though it’s a pretty standard occurrence with most pneumatic models, it’s still worth mentioning so that you know what to expect. Luckily, the WEN 61710 has a pretty good quick release mechanism meaning you don’t need to worry about jamming too much because it only takes a couple of seconds to fix the issue.
General user impressions
Quite a lot of people favor this particular model over any other that we have covered in our reviews. It’s one of the simplest and most straightforward pneumatic units around. In simpler words, even if you don’t have any experience with these things, it won’t take long until you get a hold of them.
Apart from that, people love the auxiliary mechanisms that are integrated into the stapler. For example, the quick release is something many buyers search for in affordable units.
If you’re looking for a decent and affordable staple gun, this one might be a good solution. It has most of the features you’ll need for small to mid-sized DIY project. In fact, it can cope with big projects as well, as long as you use the unit within its limits.
There are some shortcomings involved, but it’s nothing you can’t overcome in a matter of minutes. As we all know, no product is perfect, and this one isn’t an exception either. However, considering its affordable price, it does the job well.
