Makita 6302H Review Summary:

When it comes to power tools, the Japanese manufacturer Makita is undoubtedly one of the names that denote quality. That’s precisely why we’re always pleased to have their products on a review, no matter which category of power tools they fall in. This time we’ll be taking a look at their 6302H 1/2″ Corded Drill, which seems to be the favorite of many people.

This is not a fancy tool – it features no clutch adjustment and possesses only a single speed gear. However, it’s still quite a versatile device, as it’s capable of helping the user with a variety of different tasks. Because of this and other reasons, we think that it deserves a more in-depth look.

We’ll be closely analyzing all of the unit’s features, with the mission of finding out all about its pros and cons. Join us, and let’s see if the Makita 6302H is worth considering for purchase!

Specifications:

  • Weight – 4.8lbs
  • Dimensions – 11.3″ x 3″ x 8.4″
  • Speed – 550 RPM Max
  • Motor Power – 6.5 AMP
  • Voltage – 120 volts

Makita 6302H – The Basics

This model features variable speed, with its maximum RPM (Rotations per Minute) standing at 550. This means that it’s capable of drilling in a plethora of different materials. It also sports a reversible switch, which is quite large and very easy to operate.

The 6302H comes with a 6.5 AMP motor, which is very powerful and provides the user with efficient drilling both around the house and on the job site. There’s also the belt clip attachment, a recessed lock-on button, as well as the side handle. Left-handed users will be pleased to know that this handle can be attached to both sides of the drill.

The model’s housing is an all-metal one, which is always a big plus in our book. It’s a durable and a long-lasting device, even if you intend to use it only for heavy-duty drilling jobs.

Makita 6302H Features

The Design

Like we said, one of the best things about Makita 6302H is the fact that it features premium build quality. It sports an all-metal housing, which assures durability even in the harshest conditions on the job site. Mechanical damage is not something to worry about – accidental drops won’t break the device and render it unusable.

A nice addition is a presence of a large side handle, which can be placed on either side of the drill. It increases the amount of control over the unit and provides additional comfort. The box also includes a simple belt clip which will come in very handy to those who work in high places where they don’t have a place to set down their machine.

Power

Don’t let the size fool you – 6302H packs a serious punch and is guaranteed to leave you impressed. A powerful 6.5 AMP motor provides the user with an outstanding performance, allowing one to drill through a wide variety of different materials. The 1/2″ chuck has been designed to properly hold the bit no matter how tough the situation is.

Just like we expected, the drill delivers high consistency when it comes to speed. It sports a 0-550 RPM variable speed reversing trigger which is there to provide better precision during all drilling operations. The switch has a convenient location and includes a standard lock-on button that prevents unintentional reverse switching.

Warranty

The model comes together with a 1-year limited warranty, which is significantly shorter than your usual drill industry standard, even though it’s typical for a number of companies. Shorter warranties are sometimes the indicators of lower reliability and build quality, but that just isn’t the case with this drill.

Things we liked about the Makita 6302H

As you can see from above, there are a number of things we liked about this corded drill. As far as we’re concerned, the best thing about it is its powerful motor – 6.5 AMP of power are guaranteed to help you complete any drilling task you put your hands to. It’s an excellent choice for both professionals and hobbyists, as it is versatile enough for both light and heavy-duty projects.

Another great thing is the all-metal housing. We’ve seen a number of plastic cases on corded drills through the years, and we’re glad that Makita decided to provide this model with a more durable finish. With this unit, you won’t have to worry about mechanical damage at all.

Q

Things we didn’t like

Unlike some other Makita power tools we’ve reviewed, this one didn’t arrive in a dedicated Makita box – it came in a simple paperboard case. This is quite a sharp contrast to the unit’s all-metal housing and something that will surely leave all serious handymen disappointed.

We weren’t quite pleased with the included warranty either – a 1-year limited warranty is quite discouraging, and something we certainly didn’t expect from a manufacturer with this reputation. Makita 6302H is not a high-end corded drill, but we still think that it deserved at least two years of warranty period.

General User Impressions

Users are praising this model’s ruggedness and reliability, saying that it’s yet another great corded drill manufactured by Makita. They’re especially pleased with the side handle and its capability to be mounted on either side of the unit – left-handed people appreciate this feature just like we expected.

And just like we are, the users are disappointed with the short warranty period on 6302H. We hope that Makita will hear these complaints and fix them in the next revision of the device.

Conclusion

Those looking for a drill that will be efficient for projects of all sizes but still not too large to maneuver will find Makita 6302H to be a pretty tempting offer. Powerful to push through a myriad of different materials, comfortable to handle without cramps or fatigue, and easy to control no matter the toughness of the material, the 6302H has been built to serve you for the years to come.

Makita continues to produce outstanding power tools at an affordable price – this model is a great example and something we heartily recommend for purchase.
