Unicatch USC71 – The Basics
This model is a great all-around tool for your DIY projects. Even though it’s not designed for other types of projects, it’s still capable of coping with them. Therefore, even if you aren’t focused specifically on upholstery, you will still find this model quite useful.
It’s an air-powered unit meaning you need a separate air compressor in order to make it work. However, that doesn’t mean it has to be a high-end compressor. In fact, the unit operates at around 80 PSI meaning any compressor that’s capable of delivering up to 100 PSI will do the job.
One of the first things you’ll notice about this unit is its design. The elongated nose stands out as one of the main features. It’s a great addition to an already versatile unit. It allows you to process hard-to-reach corners and places without any hassle whatsoever. As you may know, a long nose is a pretty significant factor in the upholstery business because there are a lot of unreachable corners.
The magazine is pretty convenient. Apart from having the quick release mechanism, it also has a system that prevents any debris to end up inside. Therefore, jamming and sudden malfunctions are quite rare.
Many people are used to seeing complicated pneumatic tools, and a lot of those people give up quickly because they don’t have any experience. You won’t have to worry about that stuff if you opt for this model. It’s one of the easiest to use on the market. All you have to do is read the manual, connect the power source, and that’s it, you’re ready to tackle your next DIY project.
As we already mentioned, the Unicatch USC71 uses air as a source of power. It operates at around 80 PSI. If you have an air compressor at home, it’s capable of delivering enough pressure to make it work. On the other hand, if you don’t, it’s easily solvable. Go ahead and buy any unit that can deliver up to 100 PSI and you should be fine. Luckily, those compressors are quite affordable and accessible to anyone.
Things we liked about it
The elongated nose has to be the best feature of this unit. Many other models struggle with thick materials and the lack of penetrating power. However, this one can pierce through thick materials without a single issue.
The magazine capacity is also an advantage that’s worth mentioning. The unit can hold 178 nails at once meaning you won’t have to reload as often as you would with other models. It’s a lightweight model; therefore, you’ll be able to use it continuously for hours before having to take a break. Obviously, it saves a lot of time and allows you to finish your projects much faster.
Things we didn’t like
The design is somewhat underwhelming. Even though it’s not bad, it isn’t impressive either, apart from the long nose. It seems as they didn’t pay too much attention to the aesthetic aspects of this device. While it may be a matter of personal preferences, we would really like to see a more aesthetically appealing unit.
As far as the performance goes, there aren’t many downsides. The occasional jamming and misfires are expected, especially in this (affordable) category. You cannot expect any miracles from it, but it will do the job well, and most importantly – it won’t leave you hanging in the middle of a project.
General user impressions
Professionals who are in the upholstery business love this particular model. The reason behind it is the elongated nose and a good magazine capacity. Some people said they had problems with the input valve, but it turned out to be a matter of faulty units. If you stumble upon a similar issue, you can request a substitution or a refund. However, because it’s been reported by an insufficient number of people, the sample size isn’t enough to make us draw any conclusions.
The reviews around the Internet are mostly positive with the exception of few negative ones. As you can assume, good reviews are more than enough proof of high quality.
If you’re planning to reupholster some of your old furniture, don’t hesitate to check this particular stapler out. It offers more than enough features for DIY projects of any size. Apart from being DIY-friendly, it can also be used for professional purposes. In fact, many professionals use the Unicatch due to its durability, reliability, and affordability.
The supplies are easy to find meaning you won’t have to search for the staples online and hassle with the shipping. Instead, you can visit the nearest hardware store, and you’ll find the appropriate supplies for it. Take a look and see if it’s the thing you’re searching for. If it’s not, keep reading our reviews, and you’ll find something of interest.
